Born February 23, 1944 in HJK Karaganda region (Kazakhstan).

Father – Jankowski, Ivan Pavlovich, before the October Revolution he served in the Army, was captain of the Life Guards Semenov regiment, a knight of St. George cross. In Soviet times, was arrested and died in the camp.

Childhood Oleg Jankowski was held in Kazakhstan, in the town HJK, which was exiled families: mine, a particular contingent – family exiled intellectuals and criminals.

Mother – Marina learned at the accountant and one fed her family: three sons and their mother. They lived from hand to mouth, went to the cast-offs, five of us huddled in the 14-meter room, but kept an extensive library, spoke in foreign languages, read a lot, and in the evening to receive the guests – such as the exiled intellectuals.

Over time, Jankowski moved to Saratov. The eldest of the brothers – Rostislav – started playing back in HJK. He graduated from the Saratov Drama School, then moved to Minsk, in Russian theater. 14-year-old Oleg, he took to himself, to take away home at least part of the material concerns (in the family was one breadwinner – the middle brother Nicholas). There Jankowski, Jr. made his debut on the stage – for an ill singer cameo boy in the play "drummer."

Back in Saratov, Oleg Jankowski joined the Saratov Drama School IA Elephantiasis. It is true that here there was absolutely fantastic and fateful history. When Oleg came to school, exams have long been over. It dared to go to the director – learn about the conditions of admission to the future. Director, not allowing even explain the purpose of the visit, he asked: "What's your name?" "Jankowski", – said Oleg. He looked in some lists on my desk and said: "Good. You have accepted. In September, come to learn." Oleg returned home stunned: why it took no exams, probably in the school shortage. In the autumn he just came to class. And only a few months it became clear what had happened. It turns out that his brother Nicholas secretly dreamed of a theater. He worked as a steelworker at the plant, but dreamed of the stage. So he went to enter a theater, anyone without saying a word about it. He passed all the exams, passed all tours … And when he learned that Oleg's College took him, he just said nothing. They say, let him study the youngest, but he needs to feed his family – his mother and grandmother. But in college a long time believed that they were simply confused the name of the applicant Jankowski.

After graduation in 1965, Oleg was enrolled in the company of the Saratov Drama Theatre.

After the graduation Tuzenbach (1965) – the fragile romance with cut wings – was a theatrical debut: Nenillo in "Christmas in the house of Signor Kupello" Eduardo De Filippo. Then – not far, but with a non-trivial natural instinct Measham in "teacup" Scriba, inexperienced bungler MELUSOV in "Talents and admirers" and a lot of walk-through roles, which usually lasts repertoire. But fate has given and the role of Prince Myshkin. Performance Artist Tatiana Selvinsky recalled that "during the rehearsals in the scenes with Nastasia Filip Jankowski have stood out dark spots under the eyes. He suddenly seized with a desperate debilitating anxiety … "True, the actor said that this role, he only" touched "…

From movies to Oleg also helped the case. Once Opera in Lviv. Oleg went to the hotel restaurant for lunch. And near the table sat Vladimir Basov, Valentina Titova, and other members of the crew of the future movie "Shield and Sword". They discussed which look at the role of artist Heinrich Schwarzkopf. Titov, nodding at Oleg, she told her husband: "Look, sits a typical Aryan youth. Basov was agreed that this man came to him perfectly, but … "He, of course, any physicist or a philologist. And drat find an artist with such a clever person." Thank God, someone from the assistants are not too lazy to go to Yankovsky …

The role of Henry Heinz in the movie "The Sword and Shield" and the next picture – "were two comrades" Oleg Jankowski became a popular artist.

In 1973 he joined the Moscow Theatre of Leninsky Komsomol.

On stage, "Lenkom" the most significant of his works were roles in productions of "Avtograd-XXI», «The lists do not mean" by Boris Vasilyev, "clairvoyant" by L.Feuchtwanger, "Blue horses on a red grass" and "Dictatorship of Conscience" Michael Shatrova, "Optimistic Tragedy" Vsevolod Vishnevsky, "Pocket Theatre, Jean Cocteau," Hamlet "by William Shakespeare," School for Emigrants "D. Lipskerov," Seagull "And . VP Chekhov's "The Barbarian and a heretic" (novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky "The Gambler"), "Jester Balakirev" GI Gorin, «Tout paye, or all paid for" I. Zhamiaka.

Historically, for the artist in 1983 he invited Andrei Tarkovsky in "Nostalgia". "Lose not be able to?" "Where?" by surprise I blurted out, – recalled the first meeting Jankowski. – Although I knew that he needed a man who's suffering the spiritual life in the literal sense. What is the state and will subject the film. We sat in the warm evening in the little cafe on a deserted Roman square. We talked about nostalgia. How does it play? What is behind this? Only a birch tree? However, they also exist in Italy. A nostalgia? Probably, too. Suddenly, as in a bad film, was approached by two boys – one with a cap, the other with an accordion – and began to play "Amur Waves." "It's too much, – said Andrey. – Nobody does not say. Do not believe it".

Cardiac pain increases, the legs do not hold, strangling pulse rate. He lights a third time, gathers force as if the last before his death, to keep the wrong flame, and income. And we have not seen. Splash. Sounds of Verdi's Requiem.

In 1987 there was another Benefit roles in Michael Schweitzer's "Kreutzer Sonata". It was emaciated, distrustful, nesmirivshiysya man with unbuttoned soul. Delirious monologue of his hero (he is fired up, then snikal, then frantically lit, then, emboldened by the drug came into the muddled, confused confessions), an artist living with the almost forgotten in our view the power of passion, with incredible, it seemed to him the nature of tragic acting.

In the early 1990's Jankowski returned from France (where half played in the European theater project) "in another country." The flow of commercial products and "cooperative" movies streamed on screens, but to participate in the artist could not afford. But agreed in 1993 to become president of the Open Russian Film Festival in Sochi (ICF Kinotavr).

In 1996, Mark Zakharov staged "The Seagull" where Jankowski mercilessly and yet unobtrusive plays Trigorin. In 1999, he was to nice to play a small role in the shtetl Jew melodrama Sally Potter The Man Who Cried, "along with such stars as Johnny Depp and John Turturro (film appeared in the official program of the Venice Film Festival). After college Lyudmila once was invited to the Saratov theater and it instantly popped up in the stars. Watch her go all the Saratov, about Oleg then said: "This man most Zorina.
