Karatygin Pyotr Andreyevich (29.06 (11.07) .1805 – 24.09 (06.10) .1879), son of Andrei Vasil'evich Karatygina.

After graduating from the Petersburg Theatre School (1821), all his life played in Alexandria Theatre.

Roles; mostly in comedies and farces. Best known as a playwright, became vaudeville writer. Written by over 40 musical comedies ("vaudeville", 1937).

Best of them was a success thanks actuality of the plot, lively dialogue, entertaining verses: "The House on the Petersburg Side" (1838), "The stock 1-tier to the latter's debut Taglioni (1838)," Baker's, or St. Petersburg German "(1843) "uniform" (1845), "Uncle" on three legs "(1853), etc.

Limited views Karatygina manifested in the farce, "Natural School" (1847), in which he ridiculed the realistic and democratic trend of Russian literature.

Karatygin – author of "Memoirs" (vol. 1-2, 1929-30, the last edition. 1970), which reflected the events of theatrical life in those years.
