Lebedev Polyansky-colonel (real name – Lebedev nickname – Valerian Polyansky) (12/21/1881 (01/02/1882) – 04/04/1948), a Soviet literary critic, academician of the USSR (1946). Member of the CPSU since 1902. Member of the revolutionary movement.
In 1908 – 1917 was in exile in Geneva. After the October Revolution, the Government Commissioner literary publishing division Narcompros (until 1919) under his leadership performed first Soviet edition works of Russian classical writers.
In 1918 – 1920 Chairman of the All-Russian Council Proletkul't; been influenced by his erroneous theoretical systems. Was the chief editor of publications: "Proletarian Culture" (1918 – 1921), "Literature and Marxism" (1928 – 1930), "The Literary Encyclopedia (1934 – 1939), etc. In 1921 – 1930 Head Glavlit. Member of the Main edition of a second edition of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia. Author of several theoretical works ("Lenin and Literature", 1924, etc.), works on the history of Russian criticism ("NA Dobrolyubov," 1933; "Three great Russian democracy," 1938; "Belinsky" , 1945), articles on Soviet literature (the book "On the literary front, 1924, etc.). Awarded the Order of Lenin.
