Giorgio Morandi (20/07/1890 – 06/18/1964), Italian painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna (1907 – 1913), where he taught in 1930 – 1956. Experienced it influence P. Cezanne and Cubism, belonged to the "metaphysical paintings. He worked mainly in the field of still life. Since the mid 20's. austere purism shaped structure, geometric abstraction detached from everyday things ("Metaphysical Still Life" 1918, Hermitage, Leningrad) was replaced in the work of Morandi lyricism, subtle associative images of the objective world ("Still Life", 1944). To Morandi painting is characterized by a poetic and contemplative mood, a peculiar mix of reality and the ideal of an artist, a harmonious combination of rhythmic ordering of compositions with variability of colors.
