Mare Hans von (12/24/1837 – 05/06/1887), German painter. He studied with Karl Shteffeka in Berlin (1854 – 1855). In 1864 – 1870 and from 1873 he lived in Italy. Influenced by Italian Renaissance art turned to the monumental and decorative painting, seeking the life depicted specificity (frescoes zoological station in Naples, 1873 – 1874). Sharing the aesthetic views of A. Hildebrand, and K. Fiedler (so-called. Neoidealizm), Mare tried in allegorical images of the dream of a "golden age" of humanity, sought expression of purely plastic elements of his works ("Golden Age", 2 versions, 1879 – 1885, New gal., Munich). His late-suite triptychs on mythological themes differ clear distribution of the main mass, dimensional rhythmic forms, known sonority of color, flatness of composition and contour linearity they anticipate the painting "modern". However, the inclination toward abstraction, built on associations with classical art, the ideal of making a product Mare element of cold abstractions ("The Judgement of Paris", 1880-81, Nat. Gal.
