Matthias Grunewald (1470 – 1529) – German painter. There is no doubt belonged to his hand: "Resurrection" (in the Basel Museum), two figures of saints (Frankfurt M.), Erasmus and St. Maurice (in Munich). His main work, the image izengeymskogo foldable altar (1510, now in Colmar), demonstrates the richness of his imagination and has a brilliance of colors. The content of these images: Temptation of St.. Anthony, the figure of St. Anthony and St. Sebastian, Nativity, Annunciation, Resurrection of the dead, Christ on the Cross, Lamentation over the body of Christ. G. attributed still very much works, which, however, hardly belong to him. The peculiarity of his talent lies in naturalism, often reaching to the extremes, and sometimes produces a feeling of revulsion.
