Vasily Perov (01/02/1834 (23/12/1833) – 1882), was born in the town of Tobolsk. His father, Baron von Kridiner, was the provincial procurator. But as the boy was born to the parents' marriage, he received the name of his godfather – Vasilyev. Subsequently, however, the artist has approved a name Perov. Perov – a nickname given to Basil in his childhood for his success in calligraphy. The first lessons of painting the future artist was in school Stupina in Arzamas. This school was considered one of the best provincial art schools at that time. When Vasily was 18, he moved to Moscow and entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Soon the artist was written painting "Sermon in a Village," one of the first for which Perov was in college a gold medal, as well as the right to a scholarship to travel abroad. Along with the painting "Sermon in a Village" James says now, which brought him first fame, it's "Procession at Easter." Having visited many museums in Germany, Perov, then stops in Paris. Here he reveals his talent subtle lyricism and a psychologist, as shown by such paintings as "The Blind Musician", "Savoyard", "Paris Ragpickers. When Vasily Perov returned to Russia, he saw her with different eyes. At that time, the artist creates his best works, such as "drowned", "Troika", "Journey," "The arrival of a governess in a Merchant House," "Sleeping Children", "Stranger," "Last Tavern at Town Gate." Each of these paintings is like a tale of human woe. In the next decade Perov the surprise of many becomes a portrait. For the collection of the Tretyakov artist does portraits Dahl, Dostoevsky, Maikova, Pogodin, Turgenev. Later Perov appears as a historical painter. In his work he turns to the topic of Gospel stories and folklore, he is attracted to the turning points in Russian history.
