In 1959, Sergei Nikonenko finished tenth class at night school and after several failures in theatrical universities enrolled in the acting department at State Institute of Cinematography, in the course of S. Gerasimov and T. Makarova, where he studied with the future stars of Soviet cinema &#8211; Larissa Luzhin, Halina Polish, Yevgeny Zharikov , Nikolai Gubenko, Jeanne Bolotova. In the second year he debuted in the film &#8211; played in the film by Sergei Gerasimov &quot;People and animals, and the first notable role Nikonenko performed in 1967 in the film&quot; The Journalist &quot;. In 1968 he joined the Directing Department of State Institute of Cinematography, and again for Gerasimov and Makarova.
